Building the Tokorel Universe
Opening
When readers open a science fiction novel, they usually see only the finished story. What they don’t see is the universe that exists behind the pages. The worlds, cultures, and histories that shape every moment of the story. The Tokorel universe is ever expanding and encompassing new worlds, new characters, new discoveries, and new realms. The saga is ever growing!
The Worlds
The Tokorel saga takes place across several worlds, each with its own culture and history. Khizara is a warrior civilization where honor and combat shape daily life. Tokorel, on the other hand, is home to a people who possess the rare ability to sense and influence emotion itself. Looking farther beyond, Hakai is the planet of lost souls thirsty for revenge from being left alone on a desert planet. Brachen is the place of history, where ancient prohecy was revealed and history started to change. The Cornestones, each one a seat of power, on different worlds, run by different beings, threaten, instill, and reign, Sometimes benevolently. Sometimes not. Then, there is Centerstone. A mysterious planet. The place of miracles.
The Hidden History
For more than two hundred years, these civilizations have believed a certain version of history. But what if that history isn’t true? What if it was a series of fabricated lies and untruths meant to tear the two worlds apart? Meant to cause and create a rift so wide it could never be repaired?
The Map
One of the most exciting parts of building this series has been creating a map of the Tokorel system. A star chart showing the worlds where the story unfolds. Here is an ancient map, recently discovered, revealing the Khizaran system.
The Prophecy
At the heart of the story is an ancient prophecy. It speaks of two enemies whose choices may determine the fate of their worlds. But, there are rumors that a second prophecy was recently located. One that shows more. But is that more evil, or good?
Closing
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more glimpses into the Tokorel universe, including artifacts, characters, and some of the hidden history behind the saga. Tokorel and its universe is expanding beyond the pages of a simple book. It’s coming to life!
